HRRC provides grants for roof replacement

If winter has taken a toll on your roof and it needs replacement, but you don’t have sufficient funds for the job, HRRC may be able to help. Cleveland Heights homeowner/occupants who fall within federal low- and moderate-income guidelines can receive $1,000 Incentive Grants ($1,500 for seniors age 62 and older) for a new roof. The project must involve replacing the roof over the main body of the house. (Garage roofs can be included in conjunction with house roof replacement, but do not qualify as a stand-alone project.)

HRRC has many other ways to make the job affordable. While our Incentive Grants do not have to be used with one of HRRC’s loan programs, our 0% loan may be helpful in covering the remaining costs. If you can’t afford a loan payment for the entire amount, HRRC’s Deferred Loan Match may let you defer half the cost of the new roof until the house is sold or changes title. And, regardless of income, if you don’t qualify for conventional financing but can afford a small monthly payment, you may be able to use HRRC’s Challenge Fund loan guarantee to obtain a bank loan. Financial Assistance Program Coordinator Wesley Walker will work with you to determine the combination of resources that will best fit your situation.

Not only does HRRC provide financial assistance, but we also help you navigate the process of contracting the repair. Each qualified applicant will receive a preliminary assessment of the work needed; a review of the contractors’ bids; and a completion inspection when the work is done. By working with Wesley on this project, grant recipients will be educated and empowered to handle the future maintenance needs of their home.
