Grant Programs
Home repair grants are available to owner-occupied, one-and two-family properties that fit program guidelines. To qualify, homeowners must be owner-occupants in Shaker Heights, current on property taxes or on an approved payment plan with the Cuyahoga County Treasurer’s Office, and must be at or below these household incomes:

Exterior Maintenance Grant
Grants up to $2,500 are available to correct exterior violations cited by the Building and Housing Department. Property must be located in the Ludlow, Moreland, Lomond, or Sussex neighborhood. Homeowners must provide a 10 percent financial match.
Senior Exterior Maintenance Grant
Grants up to $2,500 to correct exterior violations cited by the Building and Housing Department are available citywide to residents that are either 62 years old or permanently disabled. Homeowners must provide a 10 percent financial match.
Free Paint
Free exterior paint is available for owner-occupants, who meet the income guidelines, to correct paint violations cited by the Housing Inspection Department. Property must be located in Ludlow, Moreland, Lomond, or Sussex neighborhood.
Senior Emergency Safety Grant
Grants up to $500 are available to address health and/or safety hazards for homeowners who are permanently disabled and/or age 62 and older, and meet the income guidelines. Requires a $50 match.
Applications for all City grant programs must include at least one and up to three estimates, depending on the grant and project costs. A good estimate should always include a clear scope of the work, no matter how big or small the job. Download this sample estimate (PDF) for more information.
