Installing Kitchen Cabinets

n this workshop, learn how to identify the best types of cabinets and what qualities to look for when you go shopping for new ones. How to put-in lower and upper cabinets in your kitchens and bathrooms as well as how to adjust door hinges and knobs. You’ll also learn the fine points of clamps and tools that you can use for home repair and maintenance throughout the house. We all know how newer cabinets can spruce up a room, and after this class you won’t have to worry about who’s installing them.

Hardwood Floor Refinishing

Hardwood floors are some of the most beautiful parts of our home, but they need to be maintained and this workshop will show you how to do just that. You’ll learn the type of sanders to use; differences between sanders; and how and when to apply sealer, stain, and/or polyurethane. And, before you learn how to sand and apply finisher, you’ll prepare your floor for sanding. So, get ready to make your floors sparkle!

General Description of Home Repair Classes


Hiring a contractor is EXPENSIVE.  How do you know who to hire?

Repair Classes give you in-person, hands-on experience doing common home repairs.  Learn how to do it yourself, or learn how jobs are done so you can hire someone with confidence!

1 & 2 Night Workshops

For people with limited knowledge of a subject. Workshops are taught by professionals who provide you with an overview and definitions of the terms and words used in the field. Instructors have materials and tools for you to see, hold, and use. These professionals are happy to answer questions about your specific situation and give you advice on fixing it.  Participants leave with knowledge, skills and confidence!

Caulking & Weatherstripping Your Housecaulking

Reducing the amount of air that leaks in and out of your home is a great way to increase your comfort and lower your heating and cooling costs.   Caulking and weatherstripping are two simple and effective air-sealing techniques that offer quick returns on investment, often one year or less. Caulk is generally used for cracks and openings between stationary components such as door and window frames, and weatherstripping is used to seal components that move, such as doors and moving windows.

Be part of a small group and learn how to caulk, weatherstrip and insulate. No bystanders—everyone participates!

  • Roll up your sleeves, grab your caulk gun and learn how to caulk
  • Add weatherstripping to a door and window
  • Hang and install different kinds of insulation in a variety of places

It's time to show your basement appliances some love!  Learn how to make sure your furnace or boiler, and hot water heater, gets you through the winter, safely and efficiently.  This workshop will answer your questions about how to maintain your hot water heater and furnace, when to call in a professional, and what to expect from a "maintenance plan."

Advanced Workshop: Plaster Repair

Prepare to "dig in" and learn hands-on plaster repair.  In this 2-part workshop, a professional property manager will teach you how to

  • repair holes and cracks in plaster walls
  • finish the repairs for painting
  • tell if a repair won't be possible

Participants will work on plaster walls, and you'll fill, sand, and finish a variety of repairs.

Workshop Fee:  $40 (4 hours of instruction)

Materials Fee:  $20  (includes blades, joint compound, and protective equipment to use in class and take home)
