Plaster Walls & Ceramic Tile: A Hands-On Workshop

Have you been wanting to repair holes and cracks in plaster walls, then this workshop is for you! You'll fill, sand, and finish a variety of repairs along with finishing those repairs so you can paint the plaster walls...just like you would at your own house

 At the same time we'll be holding a workshop on fixing and laying ceramic tile. Measure, cut, lay, and grout tile on a real ceramic tile floor. We'll use a tile saw and we'll cut tiles by hand.
 
Not only is this class free, and open to people from any city, you also get to choose whether your want to learn about making repairs to your walls or to the tile floor! Or both!

Free Class: Home Security

Gain an understanding of how home security systems works themselves and what you may be able to install yourself. What can you do with outdoor lighting and bushes? What parts of your home might be most vulnerable to unwanted entries? Learn how you can use current, inexpensive technology to feel safer and what some of the costs for home security might be. Our teacher is a former security installation expert who can take all your questions and help make sure you feel safe in your home.

Composting 101

Painting: Exteriors

This class will give you a great start on how best to paint the outside of your house (or garage, or shed, or fence). Learn how to prep for the job including how to measure, how much paint you’ll need, and the best type(s) of paint to buy. You'll see what kind of tools you'll need and the best methods for scraping. Priming, spackling and caulking will all be covered too. Time permitting, our expert instructor will let you paint for yourself and maybe even use a paint sprayer.

So before summer ends, come see how to paint your house right.

Fee: $25

Window Repair: Glazing, Sash Cord, Screens

Prepare to "dig in" and learn hands-on plaster repair.  In this workshop, a professional property manager will teach you how
  • Plaster and lath walls are constructed
  • Terms and words to know when working with plaster
  • Tools and supplies needed for repairs
  • How to repair holes and cracks in plaster walls
  • Finish the repairs for painting
  • Tell if a repair won't be possible
Participants will work on actual plaster walls and models and you'll fill, sand, and finish a variety of repairs that are common to plaster walls.

Enrollment is limited to the residents of the Buckeye-Woodland-Mt. Pleasant neighborhoods. Those from other neighborhoods will be put on a Waiting List and notified the week prior to the class if there is any room available.

Free: Roofs - A Comprehensive Overview

Repair Classes give you in-person, hands-on experience doing common home repairs.  Learn how to do it yourself, or learn how jobs are done so you can hire someone with confidence!

1 & 2 Night Workshops

For people with limited knowledge of a subject. Workshops are taught by professionals who provide you with an overview and definitions of the terms and words used in the field. Instructors have materials and tools for you to see, hold, and use. These professionals are happy to answer questions about your specific situation and give you advice on fixing it.  Participants leave with knowledge, skills and confidence!

Caulking & Weatherstripping Your Housecaulking

Reducing the amount of air that leaks in and out of your home is a great way to increase your comfort and lower your heating and cooling costs.   Caulking and weatherstripping are two simple and effective air-sealing techniques that offer quick returns on investment, often one year or less. Caulk is generally used for cracks and openings between stationary components such as door and window frames, and weatherstripping is used to seal components that move, such as doors and moving windows.
