Kitchen Remodeling 3-Part Series, Wednesdays 7-9pm

Whether you're looking to modernize, or just want more storage, this series will be perfect for you.
Class 1 will provide a comprehensive overview of current trends in kitchen remodeling along with detailed demonstrations of how to prepare for a remodeling job, large or small:
  • importance of accurate measuring
  • pricing & budgeting
  • making sure you buy the right (and enough) materials
  • familiarizing yourself with the needed tools
  • any necessary demolition work.  
Classes 2 and 3 will give you hands-on experience, building upon what was learned in Class 1, and allow you a chance to install faucets, sinks, new lighting options & fixtures, fans, and flooring for yourself. Along with a whole lot more. Your kitchen won't remodel itself, but after this series, you'll be more confident in doing some of it yourself.
 
Series Fee: $75 (6 hours of instruction)

And, you'll even be able to try your own hand at painting as we'll have model cabinets and walls available for you to perfect your stroke.

Installing Ceramic Tile

Let’s get to work! In this 2-hr, hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to lay tile by actually laying tile. You'll learn about subflooring options and lay your own subfloor. Then you’ll measure, cut, lay, and grout tile on a real ceramic tile floor. We'll use a tile saw and we'll cut tiles by hand. Do you learn better by doing? This is the class for you!

  • Plaster and lath walls are constructed

  • How to repair holes and cracks in plaster walls
  • Finish the repairs for painting
  • Tell if a repair won't be possible
Participants will work on actual plaster walls and models and you'll fill, sand, and finish a variety of repairs that are common to plaster walls.

All homes need to be painted at some point. In this workshop, we'll get a chance to use our models as well as actual walls, in a classroom in one of the city's historic churches. You'll learn the finer points of painting inside your house. Our expert instructor will show you the tips and techniques, as well as letting you know what supplies, tools, and brands you should use to make sure your next paint project. And you'll get to use your own hands to practice what you've learned.

Repair Classes give you in-person, hands-on experience doing common home repairs.  Learn how to do it yourself, or learn how jobs are done so you can hire someone with confidence!

1 & 2 Night Workshops

For people with limited knowledge of a subject. Workshops are taught by professionals who provide you with an overview and definitions of the terms and words used in the field. Instructors have materials and tools for you to see, hold, and use. These professionals are happy to answer questions about your specific situation and give you advice on fixing it.  Participants leave with knowledge, skills and confidence!

Caulking & Weatherstripping Your Housecaulking

Reducing the amount of air that leaks in and out of your home is a great way to increase your comfort and lower your heating and cooling costs.   Caulking and weatherstripping are two simple and effective air-sealing techniques that offer quick returns on investment, often one year or less. Caulk is generally used for cracks and openings between stationary components such as door and window frames, and weatherstripping is used to seal components that move, such as doors and moving windows.
